{"id":7788,"date":"2023-07-24T21:18:07","date_gmt":"2023-07-25T02:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americacellbank.com.co\/sin-categorizar\/research-on-genetically-modified-stem-cells-to-fight-cancer"},"modified":"2024-09-04T16:55:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T21:55:22","slug":"research-on-genetically-modified-stem-cells-to-fight-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americacellbank.com.co\/en\/blog\/research-on-genetically-modified-stem-cells-to-fight-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Research on genetically modified stem cells to fight cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish scientists from the <strong>Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST)<\/strong> de Catalunya and the <strong>Institut d&#8217;Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (Idibell)<\/strong> have signed an agreement to carry out research into the genetic modification of stem cells from umbilical cord blood.<br \/>\nOnce again, stem cells obtained from umbilical cord blood are promising for the future of health, as well as being a fascinating field of research in medical science.<br \/>\nThese cells, present in the umbilical cord blood of newborns, are remarkable for their capacity for self-renewal and their potential to differentiate into a variety of specialized cell types.<br \/>\nTheir ability to form blood cells, such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, is especially valuable for the treatment of various hematological diseases and genetic disorders.<br \/>\nUmbilical cord stem cells have proven to be a rich source of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americacellbank.com.co\/investigacion\/celulas-madre-hematopeyicas\">hematopoietic stem cells<\/a>, which have been successfully used in bone marrow transplants to treat conditions such as leukemia and other blood cancers.<br \/>\nIn addition, these cells possess unique immunomodulatory characteristics, which can contribute to the regeneration and repair of damaged tissues in various autoimmune diseases. <strong>An expert in this research explains:<\/strong> &#8220;We believe that our development will make it possible to produce immune system cells designed to attack specific therapeutic targets in a much faster, more effective and cheaper way than technologies currently being tested.
