Osteoarthritis, known to the general public as osteoarthritis, is the most widespread joint disease in the population.
\nConventional treatments have shown modest improvements and it is generally a disease that becomes chronic and generates joint pain, loss of quality of life and disability. <\/p>\n

What is the role of stem cells in the treatment of osteoarthritis?<\/h2>\n

Mesenchymal stem cells MSCs<\/a>, regardless of their origin, are becoming a therapeutic solution<\/strong> that allows patients to improve their pathology.
\nThere are many studies on this subject and many clinical trials are underway with various sources of mesenchymal stem cells: bone marrow, umbilical cord, adipose tissue are the most widespread. <\/p>\n

This article seeks to compile information from the scientific literature published in various media in order to inform the general public about the therapeutic usefulness of stem cells in osteoarthritis:<\/h3>\n

Taking a cue from the 2019 study The authors, Stem Cells Translational Medicine published by Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
\non behalf of AlphaMed Press, where they seek treatment with bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells for patients with osteoarthritis conclude that there is an overall improvement in pain and that disease symptoms and synovial inflammation caused by the disease are reduced<\/strong>.
\nInjections of 1, 10 and 50 mll of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells were performed and the result is that in general there was an improvement in Koos pain, an improvement in stiffness and in the application of the 50 mll clinically relevant improvements in most of the MPRs, These studies, carried out on the basis of MSC umbilical cord mesenchymal cells, also reached the same conclusions of efficacy on joint pain, recovery of stiffness and improvement of cartilage quality. <\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/h2>\n

At present, there are many studies<\/a> and clinical trials that point to the benefits of the use of stem cells for osteoarthritis, but it is also true that there is still no consensus on the indications for the use of stem cells, the source of the ideal tissue and the preferred outcome measures for the treatments.
\nWe can definitely affirm that the use of stem cells for osteoarthritis is a valid option for those who suffer from this disease, since one of the most significant advantages, independent of the clinical improvement, is that the intervention is simple and does not require hospitalization or surgery<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n
